On 2 March 2024, an event commemorating the soldiers of the post-war anti-communist underground was held at the Museum of Cursed Soldiers in Ostrołęka. During the ceremony, the Deputy President of the Institute of National Remembrance Prof. Karol Polejowski was awarded the Memorial Cross of the Unyielding Cursed Soldiers 1944-1963.

The award was presented by Marek Franczak, son of Jozef Franczak "Laluś", the last soldier of the anti-communist underground, who was in hiding until 1963 and was killed with a gun in his hand during a raid by the security forces in the village of Majdan in the Lublin region.

The event ended with a concert of patriotic ballads by Lech Makowiecki.

The Cross is a tribute to those soldiers who fought against the Soviet occupier after 1944. The award is primarily dedicated to the Cursed Soldiers who are still alive, as well as to those who cherish their memory.

In 2023, the Memorial Cross of the Unyielding Cursed Soldiers 1944-1963 was awarded to Prof. Krzysztof Szwagrzyk, Deputy President of the IPN.

The award was established by the Society for Historical Memory Memoria Restituta – in cooperation with the Museum of  Cursed Soldiers in Ostrołęka.

The Museum was officially opened on 1 March 2022. It is the first museum in Poland dedicated to the history and key figures of the Polish post-war anti-communist underground.
