CALL FOR PAPERS: International scientific conference „Dealing with the Warsaw Uprising (1944–2024). Responsibilities, settlements, justice”

Warsaw Branch of the Institute of National Remembrance invites submissions for an international scientific conference „Dealing with the Warsaw Uprising (1944–2024). Responsibilities, settlements, justice”.

Conference’s date: 2–3 October 2024 r.

The conference tackles with challenging and multilateral question of settlement with the Warsaw Uprising. We would like to approach this problem using both broad and detailed perspective.

First of all, we must take into consideration the issue of prosecution of war crimes committed during the Uprising by Nazis and collaborative formations, as well as more general question of German settlement with such crimes, the destruction of the city etc.

Moreover, we cannot forget about the Soviet stance, the consequences of Josef Stalin's decisions, the attitude of gen. Zygmunt Berling or the responsibility of Polish communists accusing the Home Army of passivity.

In addition, we should deal with a delicate issue of Home Army leaders' decision-making and mistakes.

All these problems can be observed using the historical, juridical and social perspective.

We welcome especially general papers but also the most significant case studies. Only topics closely linked to the conference’s main subject will be considered.

The deadline for submitting paper proposals is 1st August 2024

The submission should include an abstract of circa 500 words in English/Polish and a biographical note listing major professional accomplishments (circa 250 words in English)

 (see the registration form below)

The organisers will notify selected speakers by mid-August 2024.

A peer-reviewed scientific monograph will be published on the basis of conferences’ papers. Selected authors should submit their articles (following editorial guidance) by the end of November 2024 r.
