Reflections on the Kielce Pogrom, edited by Łukasz Kamiński and Jan Żaryn, Warsaw 2006, 151 pages

This volume contains four articles by renowned experts of contemporary Polish history allowing the reader to probe deeper into the foundation and consequences of the Kielce pogrom of 1946. The opening essay raises the difficult subject of relations between Poles and Jews in 1944-1946. The two following essays are attempts to confront two theses propagated by the communist authorities – accusations regarding the responsibility of the opposition underground for instigating the Pogrom and the passivity of the Polish Catholic Church hierarchy in the face of violence against Jews. The final essay provides a synthesis of disputes, discussions and manipulations which have accompanied the story of Kielce Pogrom from the outset.
