Overview

The Public Education Office of the IPN pursues activities that are connected with the popularisation of knowledge concerning the newest history of Poland, in particular in the period 1939-1990. This is important as the hitherto existing system of teaching history in Polish schools often leads to neglecting the newest period in history. The reasons are, most frequently, quite humdrum. A majority of school curricula concerning teaching history has it that the students are instructed about the newest history in his/her last semesters of studies. It is, therefore, quite common that the teacher has too little time to thoroughly discuss the issues of the second half of the 20th century. Thence, the Public Education Office of the IPN attempts to assist schools with respect to historical education covering this period. The IPN offer includes, among others, the following: lessons, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, presentations, professional advancement programmes for teachers, and such like. Within this activity, every month several dozen initiatives are realised that are aimed at the school milieus in the broadest sense of this term. It is noteworthy, however, that the PEO IPN also has a wide range of propositions for society as a whole.

The most important educational activities that are pursued by the PEO IPN are lsted in the Central and Branch sections.
