President of the Institute of National Remembrance Professor Leon Kieres hosted Ambassador of France Benoit D'Aboville in Warsaw on November 6th, 2001. Both Professor Kieres and Professor Witold Kulesza, Vice President and the Head of the Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation, informed Ambassador about the principles of functioning and achievements of the Polish Institute. Ambassador D'Aboville presented the engagement of France in investigations concerning prosecution of the second world war crimes.

A close co-operation between France and Poland within the frames of a common project was envisioned. The year 2004 has been announced to be the year of Polish culture in France. It has been decided that this is a proper occasion to conduct a Polish-French project of "common remembrance".
