(Polish title: Z dziejów Biblioteki “Kultury” 1946-1966)
Jerzy Giedroyc established the Institute of Literature, one of the most important Polish emigration editing offices, in 1946. The history of the Institute in 1946-1966 is confronted with the events in the countries of Eastern and Western Europe. The book depicts also Giedroyc editing policy, reveals the relations among Giedroyc and the authors writing for “Kultura”. Ptasińska–Wójcik also describes the situation of writes who lived behind the “iron curtain”. The book constitutes a summary of the first two decades of the Institute’s activity when the extreme variety of publications was unprecedented.
