This book tells about major events during the Warsaw Uprising and shows its international context. The author, prof. Janusz Kazimierz Zawodny, a historian, was born in Warsaw in 1921. He was a soldier of World War II. He participated in the September 1939 campaign, was a member of the Home Army, under a cryptonym “Miś”. He also was a first lieutenant of the 2nd corps of the Polish Armed Forces, under general Władysław Anders. During the Warsaw Uprising he was a commander of a troop in the HA battalion “Łukasiński” in the Old Town. Then, in the City Center he was a vice-commander of the company “Koszta”. He got wounded twice during the fight. He was decorated with The Cross for the Brave and the Virtuti Militari Order of the 5th class. He took his doctor’s degree at the Stanford University. He worked as a lecturer at the Princeton University and at the ST Anthony’s College of the Oxford University. He was a head of the International Relations Department at the Claremont Graduate University and the Pomona College. He is the author of the publication “Death in the Forest. The Story of Katyn Forest Massacre” (1962, polish edition – 1989), which was the fundamental publication on the Katyń genocide. Apart from this he is the author of a monograph of the Warsaw Uprising “Nothing but Honour. The Story of Warsaw Uprising, 1944” (1978, polish edition - 1994). He is an editor of publications in a field of international relations. In 2003 he was honoured by the President of the Institute of National Remembrance with the title of The Curator of the National Remembrance.
