Stanisław Jankowiak depicts the issues of displacements and emigration from Poland to German Democratic Republic and German Federal Republic in 1945-1970. At the beginning it regarded mostly the German population but gradually Polish people started to consider emigration as a way to escape the imposed political system or to upgrade their living standard. The book is a first thorough elaboration of the subject. It consists of the five following parts: “Particular Issues from the History of Germans in Poland 1945-1970” (e.g. German-Polish border during WWII, Situation of Germans in Poland 1945-1949 and in the 50s, Germans in Poland in the 60s.); “Displacements of German Population from Poland 1945-1949”; “Departures of Germans from Poland to German Democratic Republic and German Federal Republic 1939 –1954”; “Departures of Germans from Poland 1955-1959”; “Departures from Poland to both German states in the 60s”. Each chapter provides for detailed information and data based on archival documents.
