The next volume that appeared in the series of “Post-Conference Materials” is devoted to the issue of opposition and social resistance in Łódź in the years 1956-1981. There were various forms of resistance, starting from the “breaks from work” in the Łódź factories, through street demonstrations and ending with independent organization and publishing activities. Some events were of supranational and national character, e.g. the strike of textile factories’ workers in 1971 which contributed to a withdrawal of the communist authorities from the decision to introduce the price rises. The students’ strike in turn made the authorities allow for the creation of the Independent Students’ Organization as well as to succumb to other substantial changes in the functioning of universities.
