The first publication of the Institute of National Remembrance is the effect of the work of 25 authors: historians, lawyers of the Universities of Warsaw and Silesia as well as the Catholic University of Lublin, Head Commission for the Investigation of Crimes against the Polish Nation (and its Bydgoszcz, Koszalin, Lublin, Olsztyn, Rzeszów and Szczecin offices), Central Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Higher Police School in Szczytno. This book was published as a follow up of four scientific conferences organized in 1999 by the Head Commission for the Investigation of Crimes against the Polish Nation and includes the remarkable contribution of the Head Commission's Director Witold Kulesza. The Institute of Social Prophylactics and Re-socialization of the Warsaw University was a co-organiser of the conferences. The authors present the following issues: This publication is based on sources containing names of the justice department officials guilty of issuing criminal sentences in various regions of Poland. It illustrates the method of repression applied against the political opponents and the totalitarian system's foes.
