In the series Dictionaries there are published elaborations of biographical and encyclopedic character which are devoted to the recent Polish history. Their goal is to present soldiers and activists of the Polish Underground State and participants of the conspiracy and civil resistance in the years 1939-1989. The first volume of the series consists of 179 biographical notes of people who did not come to terms with the post-war reality and fought for the independence of Poland in the most difficult times. The publication allows to understand the motives and fates of these people as well as the forms and scale of resistance against the Communist authority in the 1940s and 1950s. Both employees of the Public Education Office and other historians are the authors of the biographical notes. The Dictionary has been elaborated on the basis of archival materials which were not accessible in the times of the Polish People's Republic. They are the source of unique and so far unknown information. The Dictionary will appear in subsequent volumes which will be issued in the so-called Dutch system - not in the alphabetical order. The next volume is being elaborated.
