December 1970. GdaƄsk-Gdynia Exposed in Vilnius - wersja graficzna tekstu

The exposition organized by the Branch Public Education Office in Gdansk will be presented abroad for the first time. The place of the exposition, Vilnius, is not far away from the scene of tragedy that took place in December 1970 in Gdansk, but also other Polish cities such as Gdynia Elblag and Szczecin. The exhibition opening will take place in the Polish Culture House in Vilnius at 4.30 on March 18th, 2003.

The exhibition consists of imagery expressed by both picture and word. Forms such as a documentary, testimonies, documents and photographs comment on the meanders of the Polish People’s Republic history. A calendar of events distributed as a leaflet at the exhibition constitutes a useful aid for both teachers and students who will be present at the event.

The exhibition consists of more than 70 photographs, fragments of testimonies of the participants of the events from before 30 years ago, documents and other exhibits. The filmed record of the events as well as testimonies of participants recorded in 1980 constitute an additional attraction of the exhibition. Moreover, conversations of the Security Service officers, which were recorded by an amateur on the black Thursday, can be heard at the background.

The exhibition shows the whole Gdansk struggle with Communism, beginning with the shipyard workers’ strikes in 1946 and ending with the events of August 1980. It is the duty of the Institute of National Remembrance to cultivate the truth and remembrance about those events as well as to disseminate knowledge about the recent Polish history among the newer and newer generations.
