Exhibition and Scientific Session „The Displaced… New Society in Warmia and Mazury 1945-1949” - wersja graficzna tekstu

In 1945-1949 in the aftermath of the II World War and the defeat of Germany the structure of the population of the regions of Warmia and Mazury was extensively changed and artificially created anew. Within 3 or 4 years a few dozen thousand Germans were forced to move, and until the end of 1948 around half a million of Poles, chiefly from Kresy Wschodnie (East Borderland), settled down in the regions of Warmia and Mazury. Within the frames of “Wisla” action many Ukrainian people were sent to Warmia and Mazury in 1947. The main goal of the scientific session was presenting the fate of migrating population, the ensuing difficulties and tragedies often stirred up by the Polish repressive apparatus.

Prof. Leon Kieres, President of the Institute of National Remembrance opened the session. Warmia Metropolitan, His Excellency Archbishop Edmund Piszcz, Phd, was the honor host of the exhibition, which included materials from IPN Archives, as well as from National Archives in Olsztyn, Archdiocese Archives in Olsztyn, Scientific Research Center in Olsztyn, and private collections. The exhibition will be held in Olsztyn till the early December.
