Selected Investigations
Investigation concerning crimes committed against Poles in Grodno and its area by the Gestapo and German military police officers in the years 1941-1944
In the course of the investigation it has been established that the German soldiers began the extermination of Polish population once they entered Grodno in late June 1941. The criminal activities were undertaken primarily against the representatives of the Polish intellectual circles. People were stopped in the street hold-ups, placed in prison and then transported to concentration camps. In the Grodno old city a ghetto for Jewish inhabitants was arranged. The Polish efforts of armed resistance brought about executions in the Naumowicze forts. As a result of the undertaken investigative activities names of the executed hostages were established. They were officers of the Polish Army, engineers, doctors, priests, teachers and the Vice-President of Grodno. The targeted victims were murdered together with their families. The activities which are currently under way aim at establishing the names of other, unknown victims.
