"Poles rescuing Jews in the Rzeszów region in the years 1939-1945", Elżbieta Rączy, Igor Witowicz, Rzeszów 2011
The album is modest attempt to commemorate Poles who saved the lives of Jews during World War II. It contains photographs of the Poles and, in some cases, Jews saved by Polish guardians. Most of the photographs presented here are published for the first time.
In addition to the archival material there are also contemporary photographs. Most of them show the surviving hiding places and buildings in which people of the region hid the Jews as well as places where Poles were murdered by the Germans for helping Jews and the graves of such Poles.
The pictorial material has been supplemented with short biographies of the people involved and descriptions of the events which then took place. Much of the additional information is the result of latest research concerning help to the Jews by the people of the Rzeszów region.
While writing the book the editors discovered previously unknown accounts and archival photographs which should find their way into another publication about these often forgotten heroes of the recent history.
