Responsibilities

An eleven-person Council, elected for seven years, acts within the framework of the Institute. The Council is responsible for the following:

•  transfer of the documents relating to the issues quoted in Article 1 of the Act to the archives of the Institute of National Remembrance and the assessment of their completeness
• determining the rules for recording, storing, developing, securing, sharing and publishing of the documents
• setting priorities regarding the access to documents
• evaluating the Institute’s prosecution policy of the crimes quoted in Article 1, paragraph 1, point a
• evaluating the activities of the Vetting Office
• developing research programs regarding the activities of state security bodies, as well as informing and educating the public
• refusing disclosure of the documents collected by the Institute with accordance to Article 36, paragraph 9.
