Within the frames of the Ministry of Justice on June 1st, 2002, a Special International Crimes Office (SICO) was created. Brigitte Vestberg was nominated to the position of the Head of the SICO, while Frode Olsen was appointed head of the unit for criminal cases.

SICO deals with major crimes committed abroad, including war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
