Youth in Civil Resistance 1944-1989

The volume edited within the frames of the “Post-Conference Materials” consists of materials from the scientific session organized by the Branch Public Education Office in Wroclaw on May 3rd-4th, 2001.

The seminar participants were employees of the Branch Public Education Office as well as representatives of historical circles in Wroclaw, Gdansk, Kielce, Krakow, Szczecin and Zielona Gora.

The broad scope of topics presented at the session encompassed all forms of anti-communist engagement of the youth, such as participation in “adult” conspiracy, youth conspiracy, mass social protests and the participation in activities of academic parishes and social self-government. The presentations at the conference concerned the whole period of the Polish People’s Republic, from its birth to the last years of its existence, however a significant majority of them was devoted to the events of the years 1944-1956, which seems to reflect adequately the state of research on the particular stages of Poland’s most recent history.
