Nowa Huta - the Town of Fight and Labour

The third volume in the seriesof Post-Conference Materials presents documentation that has been promulgatedduring the scientific session devoted to Nowa Huta which was organized by theBranch Public Education Office in Krakow. Nowa Huta was to be a model Communisttown inhabited by happy people who spend their lives building, with great adevotion, the new system. In reality, Nowa Huta became one of the main bastionsof the anti-communist resistance. For several dozen years two worlds had beenconfronted there. The first one, the world of the Communist authority, ideological oppression and subordination; and the other world, redolent offaithfulness in beliefs, freedom of conscience, dignity, honesty, patriotism andsolidarity. The symbol of the second world was embodied by the Arc of the Lord, the Bileńczyce church.
