The Beginning of the German-Soviet War and the Fates of the Civilians
The next publication in the
Post-Conference series depicts the situation and behaviour of various national
groups in the first weeks of the German-Soviet war, the behaviour of the Soviet
authorities, of the withdrawing Red Army and of the attacking German soldiers
vis-à-vis the civilians.
The authors concentrated on the area of the pre-war Białostockie voivodship that
is particularly diversified in ethnic terms. Due to the papers of the historians
from the neighbouring states that have been included in the publication, one can
compare phenomena existing at the same time in the Białostockie region, in
Belarus (Polesie) and in Lithuania, as well as the bahaviour of Poles.
Lithuanians, Belarussians and Jews towards their neighbours.
