The publication is an effect of
studies and analyses conducted from 2001 in the Branch Public Education Office
in Wroclaw. The book is part of the research project of the Institute of
National Remembrances Public Education Office on People Sentenced to Death by
Regional Military Courts in the Years 1946-1955. It was realized by the team of
historians and lawyers from Wroclaw.
The scope of work embraced exclusively political prisoners or people who were
allegedly associated with such activities and who were sentenced to death by the
Regional Military Court in Wroclaw (by sentence which was either executed or
changed into imprisonment). The period in which the Regional Military Court
existed (January 20th, 1946 April 25th, 1955) delimit the scope of the work.
The Regional Military Court bore a special responsibility for the large scale of
repressions in the 1940s and 1950s in Lower Silesia.
142 biographies of people sentenced to death by the Regional Military Court in
Wroclaw were presented in the book. Activities of these people can be described
as political. Personal data of the repressed people as well as information on
what basis they were sentenced were presented in the book. Additionally,
information about officers and other personnel of the security services
participating in the investigation and the court proceedings as well as data
allowing to identify the time of issuing the sentence with a simultaneous
enclosure of the court files identification number have been provided.
