Beginning of the Search in the Jedwabne Site

Based on the decision of the Polish Minister of Justice - the General Prosecutor of July 10, 1941, the search works started on the Jewish graveyard. The search entails the removal of a layer of the soil and sifting it, and will be continued until the remains of the victims have been collected. Until now, single items have been discovered, which might have belonged to the victims. The works are conducted simultaneously by a few groups of archaeologists. Michael Schudrich, the Rabbi of Warsaw and Łódź, and Rabbi Menachem Eckstein, a distinguished specialist on exhumation performed according to the cannons of Judaism, are present at the site.
Media representatives have not been given access to the area.
At the present stage of works, it is not possible to assess the final date of works due to technical issues. A meeting has also been held with Poland-Israel Friendship Association based in Israel.
