Investigation in the case of murders of the people of Polish nationality by Ukrainian nationalists on June 16th, 1944 in Bełżec On June 16th, 1944, around 8 a. m., a train heading for Lwów was stopped in a forest in the area of the Bełżec township. The train was surrounded by a group of a hundred armed Ukrainian nationalists. They ordered the passengers to leave the train. Polish citizens were selected from the group of passengers and shot down in the spot. Not fewer than 33 people were killed, including: Jadwiga Henzelko, Helena Henzelko, Tekla Cioch, Tatiana Baran, Feliks Jonko, Helena Mazurkiewicz, Wanda Czarnopyś, Władysław Łoński, Helena Machlarz, Władysław Malec, Katarzyna Malec, Kazimierz Fiks, Stefania Piróg, Joanna Chmielowiec, Bronisław Wodiczko, Ludwik Hopko, Paweł Cimerman, Antoni Żurawiecki, Marian Grocholski, Anna Willman, Franciszek Latawiec, Feliks Szmiechwa, Adam Złociński, Anna Kostyk, Katarzyna Piazza, Józef Szmiga, Maria Szmig, Ludwik Bartłomowicz, Leszek Sobalski, Kazimierz Forlański, Władysław Staszko, Joanna Kogut and Franciszek Kogut.
