Soldiers of Lieutenant Wadolny. On the Independence Underground in the Wadowice Territory 1945-1947

Mieczyslaw Wadolny called “Granite” or “Avenger” was a soldier of the Polish Underground State in the years of the German occupation. After the war he was a leader of an independence partisan unit fighting in the territory of Wadowice. When surrounded by the Communist security forces on January 14th, 1947, he committed suicide.

The publication consists of two independent parts. An elaboration by Maciej Korkuc “The Partisan Unit of Mieczyslaw Wadolny the Avenger” is based on information elaborated by the author in the frames of his research on the military underground in the 1940s of the twentieth century. The author has taken advantage of i.a. the underground documentation as well as records of the Internal Security Corps and the Province Committee of the PPR (Polish Workers’ Party) in Krakow.

The other part consists of an elaboration by Apolonia Ptak which has been based on testimonies of the soldiers of Mieczyslaw Wadolny who are still alive. The testimonies were accumulated as a result of a “private investigation” which was conducted with a great effort and consistence on the part of the author.

It is the intention of the publishers that both parts complete each other and illustrate the reality and circumstances of the fight with the Communist authority.
