Council of the Institute of National Remembrance

According to the amendments to the Act on the Institute of National Remembrance adopted by Parliament in March 2010 the main tasks of the Council should be taking position on the following matters:

1. acquisition by the Institute of National Remembrance of archival documents of cases referred to in Article 1, and assessing their completeness;
2. setting the rules for listing, storage, development, security, sharing and publishing documents;
3. setting access priorities for documents;
4. assessment of prosecution policy carried out by the Institute of National Remembrance with regard to crimes referred to in Article 1 Item 1, letter a;
5. assessment of the Vetting Office’s activities;
6. establishing research programs, including the preparation and settlement of the annual competitions for funding by the Institute of National Remembrance scientific research on the contemporary history of Poland, as  well as informing and educating the public;
7. expresses, on the basis of Article 36 Paragraph 9, an opinion on the merits of refusing access to documents held by the Institute of National Remembrance;
8. formulating recommendations on the main activities of the Institute in the field of scientific research, education, access to documents, prosecution of crimes and vetting procedures.
