Finding of a Bullet Jacket at the Jedwabne Investigation Site

The Head Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation informs that on Monday, June 4, 2001, the search and examination of the victims' remains in Jedwabne will be finalised. June 1 and 2, 2001, are the last two days when the archeological and investigative works are being continued. On May 31, 2001, a bullet jacket, of most likely a 9 mm caliber, was found among the human ashes. The core of the bullet melted which leads to a conclusion that it had been put into fire. Also, on one of the skeletons another fired bullet was found, most likely of a 7.9 mm caliber of the Mauser's system. The above-mentioned items as well as dozens of other bullet shells have been found in the area of the barn. They will be subject to further investigation.
