The Polish-Ukrainian Forum of Historians

On the 19-22 October 2017, under the auspices of the Polish and Ukrainian Institutes of National Remembrance, another, fifth, meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Forumof Historians will be held in Cherkassy, ​​Ukraine.

On behalf of the Polish side, the proceedings of the Forum will be attended by: Prof. Grzegorz Hryciuk, Prof. Grzegorz Mazur, Prof. Grzegorz Motyka, Prof. Jan Pisuliński, Prof.Waldemar Rezmer, Dr Mariusz Zajączkowski, and  Secretary - Dr Dorota Lewsza. During the meeting Prof. Mirosław Szumiło, Director of the IPN’s Historical Research Office and Prof. Igor Hałagida, acting Head of the Historical Research Office in Gdańsk, as an invited expert.

On the Ukrainian side, the Forum will be attended by: Prof. Bohdan Hudź, , Prof. Ihor Ilyushin, Prof. Ivan Patryliak,, Prof. Yuri Shapoval, Dr. Volodymyr Viatrovych, President of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Prof. Leonid Zaszkilniak and Dr. Olena Humeniuk as Secretary.

The upcoming October meeting, will focus primarily on the events which took place in the areas of Chełmszczyzna / East Lubelszczyzna in the years 1942-1944. The speakers from the Polish side will be Prof. Mirosław Szumiło, Prof. Igor Hałagida and Dr Mariusz Zajączkowski, senior specialist from the Historical Research Office of the IPN branch in Lublin.

The members of the Polish – Ukrainian Historical forum focus on conducting joint research covering Polish-Ukrainian history in the years 1939-1947. During the next session, the historians from both countries will have the opportunity to listen to lectures and to discuss the past of the Polish and Ukrainian nations and try to establish certain facts on the basis of available historical sources and scientific knowledge.
