President of the IPN Dr. Łukasz Kamiński in the official delegation of the Polish President in Kiev

The ceremonial laying of flowers and wreaths at the Polish War Cemetery in Kiev-Bykivnya was the first point of the officail visit of the Polish President Andrzej Duda official visit in the Ukrainian capital, which started on Monday. The 12-person delegation accompanying the President included, inter alia, President of the Institute of National Remembrance Dr. Łukasz Kamiński. On Tuesday morning President together with his wife laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Kiev. Furthermore, a visit to the Museum of the Victims of the Holodomor took place. The program also include talks with President, Prime Minister of Ukraine and Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The cooperation of the Ukrainian historians with the IPN historians was recently resumed after a break of several years. In the first days of November an inaugural meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Forum of Historians was held in Kiev. It was assumed that the essential chronological range of the work of the Forum would cover the years 1939-1947.

It was further established that the Forum meetings will be held twice a year, alternately in Poland and Ukraine. During each meeting two topics prepared by members of the Polish and Ukrainian side will be discussed. Effects of the meetings (presentations and the discussion) will be published on the websites of both Institutes and in a special annual publication. On the first day of the presidential visit the main Ukrainian historical portal Istpravda published a text by the Deputy President of the IPN Paweł Ukielski (Polish version).
