Deputy President of the Institute of National Remembrance Dr. Paweł Ukielski re-elected to the Council of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience

Deputy President of the Institute of National Remembrance Dr. Paweł Ukielski was re-elected to the Council of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience.

The Platform is an international non-governmental, non-profit organization that was established in 2011. It brings together 51 public and social organizations from the European Union, Moldova, Ukraine, Canada and the US that deal with researching and documenting European totalitarianisms of the twentieth century. It also runs publishing and educational activity, including various exhibitions.

'One of the main long-term objectives of the Platform is to establish an international tribunal which would deal with the crimes of Communism, „says Ukielski. As he points out, very important are the experiences of the IPN, which are used in the work of the Platform on a daily basis.

This year's congress of the Platform was held in Wroclaw on 18-19 November. Among others, President of the Institute of National Remembrance Dr. Łukasz Kamiński and Dr. Robert Żurek - Director of the Institute of National Remembrance Branch in Wroclaw participated in the congress.

The objective of the annual meetings are lectures and presentations of research on totalitarianisms carried out by individual institutions within the Platform. Member organizations also present their completed projects, which are important both for the European identity and the Platform's activities. During the congress the participants also discuss the possibilities and methods of education on totalitarianism.

The organizer of the congress in Wroclaw was the Centre „Memory and Future”. It is planned that the next meeting will take place in Kiev.
