Pilgrims taking part in World Youth Day in Lisbon have the opportunity to see the ”Good Samaritans from Markowa” exhibition dedicated to the Ulma family in the Polish Town in Parque de Jogos 1º de Maio, as well as to visit the accompanying educational booth where they can meet employees of the Cracow Branch of the IPN.

On 24 March 1944, in German-occupied Markowa, a small village near Łańcut, the family of Józef and Wiktoria Ulma was executed for helping persecuted Jews. Seventeen people – Poles and Jews – were killed at the time. The only "fault" of the Ulmas was thier Christian attitude of loving thy neighbour. The only "fault" of the Jews was their desire to survive the Holocaust.

In 1995 Wiktoria and Józef Ulma received the title of the Righteous Among the Nations. Their beatification process began in 2003. On 10 September 2023, the beatification of the Ulma family will take place in Markowa.
