Ceremonies commemorating the victims of the murders committed by the OUN-UPA in the southeastern provinces of the Second Polish Republic were held in Warsaw with the participation of representatives of state authorities.

The IPN leadership honored the Volhynian Massacre victims on the 80th anniversary of the 1943 Bloody Sunday. The commemoration, prepared by the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression and co-organized by the IPN, began with a Holy Mass in the Polish Army Field Cathedral in Warsaw. Afterwards, the participants, among whom was the Institute Deputy President Prof. Karol Polejowski, laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

A joint prayer at the memorial to the genocide victims in the Volhynian Square followed, with wreaths also laid at the nearby Monument to the Volhynian 27th Home Army Infantry Division. The Institute of National remembrance was represented by President Karol Nawrocki and Deputy President Krzysztof Szwagrzyk.

The National Day of Remembrance of Victims of Genocide perpetrated by Ukrainian nationalists on the citizens of the Second Republic of Poland was established by the Polish Parliament in 2016.
